Congratulations on becoming a BJ8 owner, and on your fine taste in automotive
machinery!
The ignition key number is stamped on the face of the lock cylinder where the
key is inserted. There are several sources for original keys, at least one
of whom monitors this list, I believe (Pete Groh, petegroh@yahoo.com).
Failing that, a locksmith should be able to make a key with the number and a
blank.
Your desire to know something about the previous history of your car is a
common one among Healey enthusiasts. Most of the people who contact the BJ8
registry for inforamation are trying to trace the ownership history of their
cars. Having learned that there are very few resources to allow that, as
keeper of the BJ8 registry I have been trying to document the ownership
history of as many BJ8s as possible, for the benefit of future owners. The
California DMV isn't too helpful, because they tell me they keep inactive
vehicle registrations only 4 years before destroying them. Some other states
are much more helpful. If you want to try the CA DMV, they have a website:

After a lifetime of wishing and dreaming I just got a 3000 project car- a

BJ8. It is a sound car, but sorely in need of some love and affection ! I
think someone must have been partway through restoring it because the body
is
in grey primer coat (originally it was red I think, but looks like it may
have
been dark green at one time) and some of it arrived in boxes !
The car lived in California -namely Danville,Livermore, and Dublin and was
registered to a Thomas Head. The plate number was 450 USA.If anyone one
knows
about the car I would sure be interested.
Unfortunately the keys are not with the car -which is real annoying because
all the locks appear to be in fine
condition - anyone know if there`s a way to fit a key or find the key
number
or am I gonna have to get a whole new lock set ? cheers Nick
