s improper threading of seat belts, shoulder harnesses and =E2=80=9Ccrotch=E2=
=80=9D belts. The three bar buckle MUST be right up against the bar to=
buckle or roll bar tube to which the strap is being secured. If it is=
1 inch away, that 1 inch of slack will allow the three bar buckle to slide o=
n the belt in a crash, effectively lengthening and thereby loosening the har=
ness by that amount. The three bar buckle must be up against, or very c=
lose to, whatever the harness is wrapped around. See the illustration i=

h the harness. If you are using a clip-on attachments for your belts, and if=
the manufacturer has provided a hole for a cotter pin (or safety wire) the c=
otter pin or safety wire should be there. Why? Tech inspectors from PCA have=
told me that during transport the clips can be lodged sideways and then pul=
led off the eye bolt when the driver buckles up if there is no cotter pin. &=
nbsp;Schroth, for one manufacturer, requires this as part of their proper in=
stallation procedures. </div><div>Both of these are simple to do but ca=
