Chris,
You're absolutely correct on the trans gearing. Down the straight I was at=
7000+ RPM in 5th, and only doing about 115. It is a BL 5 speed from the H=
uffaker TR8 and this track showed how wrong it is. =20
The original trans for the car is a Spitfire 4 speed, but it was built with=
out a reverse (the reverse gear pin would sheer off all the time). Over th=
e winter, Joe Carr (the original Huffaker mechanic for the car) has committ=
ed to engineer the trans to get a working reverse. The 4 speed gearing sho=
uld work better with the rear end. You may have noticed, that I didn't dro=
p into second gear when needed as well. Shifting down to second was nearly=
impossible about half the time. We just can't get parts to make things ri=
ght. Of course a dog box would solve the problems, but I'm trying to keep =
the car original. Cheers.
