Daryl advocates decking the block as well To get proper protrusion. Eliminat=
ing the gasket reduces variation in protrusion due to variable gasket thickn=
esses, and also eliminates some of the possible loss of protrusion due to ga=
sket compression ( more likely with copper than with steel).
