Jim,
We ran a Jerico mag case gearbox for 6 seasons in SCCA National
competition and never had a lick of trouble. It cut lap times about .7
seconds at most tracks. If I were doing it from scratch today, I would
get the thinner (lighter weight) qualifying gears as they are still
bigger than we need for a 6. The mag case Jerico is only about 12 pounds
heavier than the stock 6 box. We ran a 1.76-1 first and found it was
near perfect for all the tracks we ran. PIR, FIRP, Willow, Buttonwillow,
Holtville, Mid Ohio.
The downside of the side shifter style of American 4 speeds is the
room the shifter takes up. It intrudes on the left side of the tunnel
and will be a problem unless you can move the driver seat to the left. I
would look at rotating the gearbox so the shifter was further toward the
top. The Mid Valley Engineering shifter is set up to mount on a Jerico
or Tex Racing T101 that has been rotated 90 degrees (as viewed from the
rear) so the shifter rods are on top.
