The first aircaft that I ever flew on was a, (then 50+ year old), 1930's
deHavilland dH.89A Dragon Rapide bi-plane with a pair of Gypsy Queen engines
that
most certainly were not synchronised!

The fabric and dope covered wings appeared to be held together with bits of
wire.

The approach to landing facing the north downs scarp slope/cliff face at RAF
Biggin Hill was most exciting, as the wavering gauges showed the engines were
both at or near stalling speed! (I remember the ill fated A26 Invader that had
crashed into that same cliff face a couple of years later), I was riding my
motorcycle along the valley floor, at the end of the airshow, and witnessed
the
fireball a little too close for comfort!
