I've been really interested in the answers you got on this one.

I have used Grant, Hastings, Deves, and Total Seal. I have asked
three different machine shops about their results. Two of them said
that they had run back-to-back engine dyno runs and had not seen a
change in hp, but that has to be taken with a grain of salt, because
I don't know how carefully they controlled the other variables. One
other shop I said that I would not see a hp increase but the Total
Seals would last longer, based on their experiences with circle track
racers. They claimed that the rings would maintain a good seal for a
longer period of time.

Like the above observations, if you look this subject up on the
internet, you get lots and lots of opinions but no data.

But, if you can wait awhile for an answer, I'll give you a real life
test -- but you've got to promise not to laugh at this one.

In my current engine, I have Total Seals in two cylinders, Deves in
one, and Hastings in one. Last winter I built the engine with Total
Seals. I had two engine failures in a row and had to build the engine
in a big hurry. I had to put in two new liners and ring sets, and I
used up broken sets that I had on the shelf. Since the engine had not
been run any length of time with all Total Seals, I figure that the
number of hours on all the rings is virtually the same. I've taken
compression tests, and after this weekend will take a leakdown test,
use it as a baseline, and chart leakdown after every event.

Stay tuned, and remember, you promised not to laugh.
