I put a 17-inch Kirkey seat in my Spitfire. It was snug, but it went in
without modifications to the seat or floorpan.

That is interesting to know, because I found a Kirkey seat that fit quite
well in the Mk1 Spit I was autocrossing, even with the wider aluminum
console I had to make to cover up the 6 Speed gearbox. I think if one looks
hard enough, he will find a Kirkey that will fit. I bought mine from
Summit.

That said, after I decided to convert the Spit to street trim, I wanted to
use late Spit seats with the headrest attached and discovered that they are
a tight squeeze.

I tried fitting a Kirkey seat in my Spit and gave up, even after notching
the floorpan. They are just too wide at the bottom, or maybe I am. Ended
up fitting the original fiberglass seat that came with the car. I hear the
mold is still floating around the Portland, OR area, but I'm not sure who's
got it. If you're interested, let me know and I'll do some checking around.

I am getting ready to replace the seats in my Spit, in light of the
seats being a partial cause in the recent death at Buttonwillow. What seats
are good, I have seen pics of some of the ones used and
was wondering if the Kirkey and other aluminum seats are ok. Have not
noticed a SCCA or FIA seal on any of them. thanks dick ross
