Test the lifter using Rockwell Superficial Hardness Scale 15N. The B
scale is much lower hardness than the C scale and all you will do is
ruin the B indentor ball. Test the lifter on the diameter as close to
the wear end as you can get. The factory lifters are made from cast
iron with a chill technique that hardens the business end up about 1/8
inch ir so. You should have a hardness of HRC 57 minimum equivalent,
converted from HR15N. Make sure you use the proper diameter
correction factor when figuring the final hardness.
