I also looked at this car. Based on talking to the owner and a couple of
the previous owners ,it very well could be the car. However, I could not
find one shred of evidence that would document it.

Mike downs ,the driver of the car at the Daytona in 1969, said the first
1969 Gt-6 was destroyed in its first outing at Nelson's Ledges early
that year. A second car was built and ran the rest of that year
culminating in the class win at Daytona. I only bring this up because if
the car in question was built in July, I wouldn't think they would have
been able to deliver it to the USA , make a race car out if it and win
the championship ,between July and whenever the Daytona race was held.

I have to admit that I was pretty much in the clouds about the idea of
actually owning that car. But with out something to document it, I had
to pass. The owner of the car when I looked at it early this year was a
real nice guy and a racer himself. But I just couldn't take the chance.

I could not resist the opportunity to investigate a Group 44 Gt6,
more
tire kicking than serious interest. Too many cars already, too little
time.
Hopefully the latter will change very soon. But not enough to justify
another car.

If anyone is seriously pursuing this car, I would warn them that it
is
pretty difficult for this particular car to be the actual Group 44
team's race
car for 1969. The shell has a manufactured date of July 1969. (There are
other
reasons to doubt this particular car,but its not worth going into the
detail).

Over the last few years, a number of other GT6's claiming to be
Group 44
cars have come to market. The problem will each of them was lack of
documentation. This one comes the closest to having documentation, but
somewhere along
the ownership history it was apparently necessary to replace the entire
tub and
since it was pre 1972, there is not Group 44 logbook to at least
substantiate
a lineage back to them.

Incidently, the seller never responded to my email when I asked him
about
the chassis discrepancy.

Regards to all, Cary
