Having had the dizzy off a number of times with the engine at TDC, the slot in
the distributor drive has always lined up with the #1 spark plug. So that is
telling me that the cam timing is ok, or at least not off by much. It does not
however tell me if the cam gear is flopping around at the end of the cam. If I
don't find anything soon, I will need to pull the timing cover anyway to see if
there is anything going on it there that should not be. Thanks, Joe

I had a somewhat similar problem last year at the last race of the
season. First it would run right, then it would run awful, and
finally it quit altogether. Every time I checked the timing, it was
different. Yep, cam gear was not bolted tightly to the camshaft.
Every once in awhile I get a renewal on my humility subscription.
