My suggestions are not as good as the others, but as a temporary fix (which
has been permanent for me) is to buy the smallest parts store muffler (or
resonator) you can find. I normally keep it anchored to the end of the exhaust
system at home, so that I do not piss off the neighbors. At the track, I roll
under the trailer, loosen two bolts, and take it off. I have been measured at
105 dB, which does not exceed the limits around here. Should any officials
complain, I can put it back on.
I wouldn't fool around with a bypass pipe. If the muffler muffles, it does
add a little back pressure and costs a small amount of power. I am losing
enough power everywhere else that it does not matter to me.
