I've got a new transmission--one of the dog-box ones that Cambridge
Motorsports sells. I'll let you all know how it works out later, but it
has a larger pilot on the input shaft than the standard TR3 one. Cambridge
supplied a pin bearing with it, and I had a standard pilot bushing bored
to accept the bearing with a step to retain the bearing and support the
end of the pilot if the bearing goes away.

But I'm having second thoughts about having a pin bearing at all. The
Pilot bushing is a rough way of holding the end of the shaft from
whipping. Not a very precise thing, and I have some doubts that the
overall precision of the location of the shaft is sufficient to work well
with a pin bearing. After all, this is a bolted up arrangement. And it's
British.

Any opinions? I have a bored out bushing as well. I'm probably going to
put this all together on new years day so I can get on with the great
project of measuring everything on Peyote and stuffing it into my
suspension software. I really want to do something about the oversteer.
I'm also going to put the locker in. the Quaife will go into the cheater,
which I'm contemplating building as a street legal car to DRIVE to SCCA
Vintage grids where they hardly care what you have as long as pieces don't
fall off and the roll bar is thick enough.
