Now and again, one has to wonder about the sanity of what is we are up to.
The time, money and energy we throw at these rusting relics does on occasion
make us wonder. I mean, give me a break, if I had all the money I've spent
on cars, tools and beer over the decades, think of how much I'd have to spend
on, well, cars, tools and beer! But every once in a while, something comes
along that makes you realize you are one of the more sane ones.
I've mentioned top speed runs out on the salt before to this group, and have
even done a list, land-speed@autox.team.net to assist in that area. This past
week was the Southern California Timing Association's "Speed Week" out on the
salt flats about one hundred miles west of town. Next month, the Utah Salt
Flats Racing Association will be holding its version, World of Speed (WOS).
So there's been some traffic on the land-speed list this week.
As a sanity check, I offer the following snippet excerpted from one of the
reports, no further comment:
I know what you mean about press...we have several film crews coming to WOS
and Guinness is coming for the worlds fastest skateboard...a try to go over
100... on the 130 club clocks. Should be interesting...he has done over 75
in the quarter on asphalt.
