I had the same problem.  I doubt the synchros can cause this.  Rather, my
understanding is that the gear teeth wear to a tapered shape over time which
push themselves apart.  The solution therefore is to replace the offending
gears.  In my case, I had a spare no OD box which shifted well so I took the
overdrive off the offending box and rebuilt the spare around the overdrive.
A gearbox overhaul is not too hard if you follow the sequence and have good
snap ring pliers.

I believe the Roadster Factory does over a rebuilding service, as does
Triumphs Only in San Jose.
