Easiest way is to open the trunk, disconnect the vent line from the filler n=
eck, remove the clamp from the filler neck to the rubber filler hose & work t=
he filler out from the body. Once it is out you can reach the screws on the b=
ottom of the cap & disassemble the lock from the bottom.=20

Having just cleared the last of the stuff stacked on top of my 1970 2000 Roa=
dster hangar queen, SRL311-13291, I pulled back the car covers to open the t=
runk and to take a look down into the fuel tank. Problem is, the locking fue=
l cap doesn=E2=80=99t seem to want to unlock.
How far does the key turn to unlock the gas cap? Mine goes about =E2=85=9B o=
f a turn before hitting a hard stop. I squirted some Teflon spray lube into t=
he lock and around the edges of the bit that turns =E2=80=93 no change. Of c=
ourse, I don=E2=80=99t want to apply too much force, so I may just wait and s=
ee if the lube loosens things up over time.
I have been clearing out my garage on and off since retiring in June 2024, a=
nd am just about at the point where I can get around to both sides of the ca=
r and the front and rear so that I can assess it and, with any luck, start w=
orking to get it back on the road.
