John's correct. My wife works for JP Morgan Chase and says all it takes
is the routing number on the bottom of the check and they can drain your
account.

Sorry, know this is now OT but it may preserve someone's bank
account so that they can still afford Roadster parts :-)

Welcome to the 21st century.

With "Check 21", a recently new check processing paradigm, physical
checks no longer need to be exchanged with the bank. Thet's why if
you get your cancelled checks back from your bank (remember those
days?), you may be missing some even though they were still cashed.

Some stores now do a 'point of sale' debit when you write a check.
You hand them your check, thy zip it thru a reader and hand it right
back to you. Poof - money is out of your account, just like if you
had used your ATM card - but no card, no PIN.

Those numbers on the bottom of the check - the bank routing number
and your account number - is all that was needed.
