Just so you know this is a common thing in the industry, if you can get an
agent to say it is covered, document it because it can go under his errors &
ommisions insurance if he made that statement.

All homeowners policies cover you for water damages that are sudden and
incidental (i.e. a pipe breaking) but if it is from something that has been
going
on for a long period of time (more than a week or month) than most insurance
adjusters are going to consider that normal wear and tear on the house and
the damage caused is a maintenance issue.

Also be aware, most policies only cover pipe damage as long as it is
something within the walls of the house, we had a customer who had a sprinkler
pipe
break that flooded their basement, their policy did not cover them for the
damage because the pipe was away from the house and the damage caused in the
basement was the result of flooding. Luckily they had Flood insurance on the
house and the damage was covered.

Remember lawyers write insurance documents and these are good questions to
ask your insurance agent about!!
