Thanks everyone for your advice on my question. 

I re-open my motor and the end play on the jackshaft is almost zero. I guess I 
was thinking of the clearance before I put on the hardware. A lot of time 
invested, but now I'm sure it is fine. 

Now to get the carbs and exhaust on and put the engine/trans together. 
If I recall, it is almost impossible to put the engine in the car with the 
exhaust in place, or is it with the traney on? I don't recall.
