I have a parts car in a garage in the mountains that I have to move next week.
When I put it away it actually ran, with a jump from an extra battery. That
was at least 3 or 4 years ago. Since then it has been sitting there resting
peacfully.
I tried this Sunday after the Iron Bottom to get it going again and this is
what happened: The engine turned over. There was weak spark to the plugs.
Ugly yellow gas spurted out of the gas lines into the carbs. (I put a couple
of fresh gallons into the tank.) And it did not start.
All I have to do is get it running long enough to get it up a driveway and onto
the trailer. If I can get it running I don't have to bother any list members
for help and can do it myself. The list members would be most appreciative.
Questions -- what might work? 24 volts across the starter? Two 12 volt
batteries in parallel? Is there some magic starter fluid that I can add to the
carbs that will un-gum them (I think that's probably the problem). Anything
else to look for or try?
If all else fails, I can try to tow it out of the garage and up the hill to the
street and try to push it onto the trailer with the help of 2 people if I can
find them. It woule be great if the trailer had a winch, but that's unlikely.
Where is the best tie point for towing? There is no front bumper.
Thanks all.
