Paul,
I pulled the rear end from a 70 1600 to get the 3.89 gears. It has 5 leafs.
The extra leaf is between #1 & #2. Length wise it is only about 2" shorter
than the #1 leaf. I think this should make the spring stiffer than adding
a shorter leaf. Does this sound right? The arch looks the same as the
stock springs. The numbers on both sets are the same. So I thing someone
must have added a spring. I have a set of comp rear springs, but from
posts I've read it makes for a Very rough ride. So I've decide to go with
the 5 leaf set.
It will be sometime before I get to try it out. Here's a link to the
middle of last year. http://www.reblues.net/Datsun_Assembly_2/index.htm.
Since then I decided to strip the frame & paint it. Currently the bare
frame is on a dolly and the body is sitting on Mark Sedlack's designed
stand. I need to stop changing plans & get it done. The engine &
transmission are solid Still, I have hopes to take it to RA this year.
Hope springs eternal.
Sounds like your still having some troubles with you engine swap. Are you
going to have it ready for The Mitty? Only 2 weeks till the first camping
trip to RA.
Hope to see you in the spring.
Richard Brown
