Hi Bill,
The usual problem with wandering Fuel and Temp gauges is a cactus voltage
reulator.
When you say there was a new "relay" fitted, do you mean regulator?
Perhaps the replacement is also cactus??
Cactus is an old Australian term for stuffed:)
