69 hood on a 68?

Has anyone used a 69 hood on a 68?  My 68 hood has a rust hole, and another 
lister has offered a 69 hood for a great price.  The latch bolt holes on a 68 
are spaced 32 inches apart, the 69s are 3 1/2 inches apart because of the 
safety catch.

Has anyone closed off the 69 holes and used the 68 catch on it instead?
