For all:
Last Sunday, a guy from work stopped by with
his 1963 bright red Thunderbird,
390 V8 with the 3X 2 barrel carb option.
And older restore job, the car still looked
quite fine. My car and his car, both old,
both bright red, both not 100 point cars
by any means...but both cool. I took him for a
ride in the roadster, down my standard country
test road, which includes a nice deserted
straight longer than a mile, and some nice
S curves. I didnt want to upset him, and
the car needs an alignment, so I didnt
really go super fast. But, he was impressed
when I shifted to 5th at about 80 and
continued to accelerate significantly.
All in all a very nice 30 minute ride.
Then we went down the same route in
the T-bird. Has anyone heard what
3 two barrels sound like when booted
in, in an otherwise quiet, large
American car?? Holy giant vacuum
cleaner! What an outstanding sound,
and brisk acceleration (but not
actually fast, by todays standards).
Lots of healthy gray/black smoke
initially came out the back, until
it got "cleaned out". Amazingly
floaty ride, 80 was plenty fast
enough! All in all, a good
several hours talking about and
riding in cars. The cool thing
was they could not be more differant,
but we both appreciated, and enjoyed
what each other had.
