Running on 2 cylinders [Was: Tuning/Timing question...]

More clues for the experts to help me troubleshoot my problem.

I posted last week that I had installed a new timing chain but could not get
the car to keep from backfiring through the carbs when I would accelerate,
and, the car has very little power. It idles so-so, but I wouldn't exactly
call it smooth.

While working on it yesterday, I discovered that I am only running on
cylinders 1 and 4. When I pull the plug wires for 2 and 3 there is no
difference to the way it is idling.

I am getting good spark to the 2 and 3 wires (me being the human test probe,
I was shocked at the results).

Does this "running on 1 and 4" ring any bells with any of the experts or
point me in any new directions for troubleshooting? Carbs? Timing?

Thanks,

Ken Pearce 68-2000
