I don't recall kerosene fired heaters, but I had a 58 Beetle with a
gasoline fired heater. In denver, with up to a foot of snow on the car I
would go out in the morning and start the heater and go back in. 15
minutes later there was no snow to sweep off and the interior was much
warmer than I liked. They made a similar heater for the VW bus that was a
much better match. The stock heaters took way too long to get a bus warm!

Peace,
Pat
