Andy and I have been running a roadster in CSP for several years now. Stock
classes must run stock wheels, and roadsters are severely disadvantaged with
their stock skinny steel wheels and narrow tires. In CSP you can run any
wheel and street legal tire, you can change fuel, intake, exhaust, and
ignition systems, and you can replace bolt-on units with other year units,
such as replacing a 4 speed with a 5 speed transmission or adding a posi
differential. The Harveys have several sets of wheels and tires in various
combinations, and have installed a crank-fired ignition. They use "stock"
solexes. The rules do not allow a rear sway bar in stock, but CSP allows
many kinds of suspension add-ons, so long as the suspension mounting points
are stock. I think they run multi-adjustable Konis and a Panhard bar on the
rear, and a larger roll bar on the front. You cannot alter body panels in
stock, but the lips of the fenders can be "nudged" outward a bit for tire
clearance. In CSP you can torch a new hole in the fenders and/or install
flares. The Harveys cut or torched their car. They didn't take it to
Nationals last year, but were scheduled to run something in Street Touring
or Street Modified. I don't think they went because of 9/11. In 2000 they
ran at Nationals but picked the wrong wheel/tire combination and finished
out of the trophies. They had just won a big autocross in Florida, and the
car they beat in Florida beat them at Topeka. They weren't happy about
that.

Andy is preparing an EP roadster, which allows internal engine mods and race
tires. You can strip the interior and remove the windshield, among other
things. With the next step up to Modified class, you can replace roadster
parts with any Nissan part, such as the Infiniti IRL engine, or the twin
turbo Z engine.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of you at the February 23 meet in Dallas.
Come and visit, take pictures, and have a good time with other roadster
people.
