Not to say for sure that Phillip's spoiler will produce any (or the desired)
effect, but
take a look at the little lip spoiler that has sprouted recently on Audi TTs.
The Audi TT
spoiler was a recall - they found the cars were getting tail happy due to a
low-pressure
condition over the rear deck. Small changes in the direction of the air flow,
especially
at the rear of the car, can make a big difference. A small "lip" spoiler like
this is
designed to keep the air flow attached to the rear of the car for a little bit
longer,
reducing turbulent drag and the lift that may accompany it. (BTW - I sat in an
Audi TT
convertible at the SF Auto Show last week - after I went and checked out
Calspeed's car in
the vintage racer room - pretty nifty!).
