well I pulled the starter out and part of the gear was CHEWED UP.
looked like maybe something to do with the starter not throwing back
the   gear instead of the ign switch.

I had a long starter lying around that I had purchased some time ago
from Paul Bauman. He wasn't sure if it worked....well, it did!

I discovered that you can get a long starter installed in a 70 with the
triangle still in place...IF YOU KICK IT HARD ENOUGH!!!!! 

About an hour and a half later she was up and running again. flywheel
suffered a little damage but not much.

that is the latest, for anyone interested.

MORAL? It is good to have spare parts even if you think you don't need
them.
