The place where the added copper shorts out to ground is where the
outer edge of the copper disk comes all the way out to the edge of the
fiberglass substrate (actually, a standard single sided circuit FR-4
circuit board.  I used my dremel tool to grind through the brass , leaving
only a ring about 1/2" wide where the brush runs.
