Mine has no spring - previous owner called it a cheap way to be car theft,
because if you don't know enough to turn back manually it stalls out. Seemed
like a good excuse not to tear it apart...

I've taken them apart and the switch just turns to any position, I believe.
So the spring must be in the mechanical part.
