Find someone with a pressure tester - the kind you hook up where the rad cap
goes, them pump the handle to get pressure. An external leak should become
obvious after inspecting ALL the lines.
Note: I was having similar problems - turned out to be a teensy leak in the
head gasket. Not big enough to affect performance, or see any white smoke
billowing out.
You can check this with a tester that sucks up coolant & changes color if any
traces of exhaust gas have been through it.
Many big repair chains will check these for free - they want your business,
but who says they gotta fix it eh? <G>
