Howdy from Montana to all you roadster nuts out there!

My name is Craig Odell and I've just purchased my first roadster (another
fanatic is born).
It's a 68 2000 with SU carbs.
I bought this car over the internet from a guy in Fair Oaks, CA (maybe some
of you saw this car for sale?).
Before I bought this car I sent my very pessimistic step-father to check it
out for me.
The word back from him was that the car was "not bad" which hopefully meant
"pretty good".
He said that the guy kept detailed records of the partial restoration he
preformed.
This guy has done quite a bit - rebuilt the entire front end, put in a new
third member, new shocks, new tires, and has R&R everything from carbs and
tranny to the radiator and brakes.
The only problem reported was that goofy slipped 5th gear thing.
Yea I know, not a small problem (you mean I gotta pull the engine out to get
to the gearbox?).
Well, before I sent any cash to this guy, I spoke with an extremely helpful
guy in Placerville, CA by the name of Mike Kerr (I bet some of you know this
guy).
He told me this was a common problem and quoted me some prices.
But I got to thinking - that 5th gear could slip again.
So, I got another name and number from the roadster list (thanks Tom) and
dialed the phone.
A Mr. Dick Tillinger from New York answered the phone and told me all about
a welded 5th gear that he makes.
He said it would give me peace of mind (Ahhhhh). (Mike K. what do you
think?)
Bought it.
So after all that, and convincing my father to help me pull the engine, I
felt pretty confident that the $2000 that the guy was asking for the
roadster was a good deal.
I paid $2000 for a Datsun 2000 in the year 2000 and the car weighs 2000lbs,
beat that all you numerologists.

The problem is: here I sit in Montana, I've owned the car for about a month,
I've never even laid eyes or fingers on it!
I'm going crazy!
I've got what you folks call "roadsteritis" or "roadster separation
syndrome" and "roadster deprivation disorder".
AHHHHGGH!
Yea, I've got it bad.

Anyway thanks for reading.
I look forward to chatting with each and every one of you on the list.
Bye for now.
BTW, I got my license plates the other day RDSTR what do ya think?

Craig Odell
68 2000 (sight unseen)
