Mike,
I agree with Jim,
Check to see if the coil is HOT when it quits.
if so, check that the ballast resister is wired correctly.
I have seen a ballast resister type coil installed without the resister give the
same symptoms.
If the hot lead and distributor lead are connected to the same side of the
resistor the resistor will be bypassed.
