The 520 series and later trucks did for sure, but what about the earlier
models? There's an absolutely beautiful pale green (I think) 1200 or 1300
pickup running around in Mt. Shasta. I'm fairly certain it uses a pushrod
motor, but I don't know if it's an R-series.

The L-4 was introduced here (US) in the '68 510, the L-6 in '70 in the Z.
I personally am glad Datsun/Nissan went the iron block route. If they had
gone all-aluminum, I doubt we'd still be rebuilding these motors 20-30
years later.

My biggest gripe about the "modern" cars after their relative complexity
and being harder to work on, is the prevalence of all aluminum motors. In
most cases trying to rebuild one is an exercise in futility. Top that off
with the fact that the car manufacturers quit offering new replacement
motors in a few years. Course you gotta realize that they don't make
nearly as much off of car nuts playing with 30 year old toys as they do
selling new cars. Maybe that's part of Nissan's problem. They still sell
remanufactured L series motors.

Sorry for the rant. I guess I just got on a roll.

Later, Ron
