Welcome home, Mike. I hope I am able to get to Donnington next year. I
have been passing on your mail to Nene Syquia (who has been forced to accept
the Chair of the Manila Sports Car Club). He will be in the U.S. for
several weeks and plans to call you. He has been building Cobra 427s - two
so far made and to very good standard.
Thank you for the advice on S/S brake lines and AN fittings. I was
wondering how you tested the fittings. I will certainly use S/S hard line
and AN fittings on the New Project (see below).
I have recently been considering building a replica 26R -- a brand-new Elan
with "Chinese Eyes" and flares. Because of wholesale replacement of parts
over the years, I have now accumulated enough spares for the complete
rolling chassis, and can source the missing major components -- even a
lightweight shell --quite easily. If the new QED TC ever gets here (we have
import problems), I should have a spare engine as well, and will lack only
the gearbox (I even have the tail housing). The problem will be the little
bits and pieces (door hinge pins, door handles, steering column, etc.),
particularly where I live, since there are no broken-up Elans here. I was
wondering where I might get a discarded Elan for these bits, and remembered
the two (or three?) Elans at the back of your shop, one of whom had to
donate its backbone for the transplant!
If you have kept the non-Elise spares and wish to make some space, will you
consider selling these? I can come over and disassemble to ship off. A
good excuse for a trip.
Anyway, it was good to hear from you. I do hope to visit you again.
Best wishes,
Andres
