I use clamps from circa 1980's Nissans. They are stainless steel, no slits,
continuous smooth surface with curved up edges so as to not cut the rubber,
and a nut and screw to do the clamping. There are two slightly different
sizes. They are similar in design to the original TR-8 clamps that I've
seen. I think that the clamps with slits are not good to use because the
rubber extrudes through the slits.
