Re: SU Fuel Pumps
Yes, we all have carried around the standard fuel pump tool---a rubber
mallet, at some time or other! I have used original SU's, and several
other types of pumps---AC, I believe, on my Healey. My experience has been
that they too burn points, and typically you can't replace them. My answer
has been to replace the SU points AND insure the diode is installed. This
way, I get at least 3+ years from it.
If you know the name of the alternative pump, please tell us---might be
worth a try.
PS, the story about the interstate accident was indeed tragic. Brought a
memory back to me of a very recent event on the PA Turnpike. While
travelling in one of the Turnpikes 3 (I think) tunnels, the Healey began to
die!! Using the aforementioned mallet, I frantically beat away as I
hobbled through to the other side. I shudder to think what whould (could)
have happened if it had stopped.
