Saturday morning I pulled the head off the GT6+. As you might remember, it had
lost all compression in cylinder #6. It didn't take much to see the problem,
as the exhaust valve was missing a significant portion.

Since the head was rebuilt last December, I figure that it's OK, with
only this valve being bad. I ordered a new valve from VB (no more making old
ones do...) along with a gasket set. I plan on lapping in the new valve
tomorrow night and putting the head back on Wednesday morning.

I figure a main problem was the fact that I ran the car with a 185-degree
thermostat all summer, and #6 gets the least cooling. Also, my timing was
set by ear, not by timing light, so who knows how advanced it was. Also,
the plug in #5 hinted it was running a bit lean. Add to that the fact that
the valves were used ones (we used the best 12 from 2 heads) and I figure
I just managed to fry a weak valve.

As last time, the pistons looked good, bores looked good.

The head came off in 1 1/2 hours this time. A friend and fellow Triumph owner
who runs a muffler shop let me do it in his shop, complete with air tools.
I'm afraid I'm still more comfortable doing it by hand, though.

I figure I can get it all back together in even less time. I hate it when I
get too good at something like this...

PS - Scotty, I don't think this helps you much!
