1) Rocker panels: Are they just welded along the seams?? Are they easy to remove
witha grinder and a chisel? I already have some OEM rockers panels.
2) Rotoflexes: Are they a REAL pain to replace? Mine look a bit split. I got
new ones with the car in the parts box.
3) Window rubber: for the painting, I'll take out the rear window, but the
winshield can stay, as it's not got paint on the frame (it's black). However,
there is a frame/body seal at the bottom of the windshield frame. This WILL
have to come off. Anybody any experience with removing and replacing either
of these peices of rubber??
4)With the winter fast approaching, I'd like to get the GT6 painted.
I've ignored all of the postings concerning paints...until now of course,
when I need the info!
I went to an auto paint shop, and found the original color code for the '6.
It's Damson Red #17...a kind of dark red. The paint people suggested
acrylic enamel, maybe with a hardener. Prices they quoted were
paint (gallon) $90
primer (gallon) $65
thiner (gallon) $15
reducer (gallon) $15
hardener (pint) $35
Now, I plan to dissasemble and rub the car myself. I'm not taking it
down to metal. The old paint is solid enough. The PO did spray
primer over the old paint, because it was all chipped...so I guess most of that
will have to come off.
I want to spray and rub the primer myself. In my garage, with a good spray
mask/goggles etc and a large exhaust fan be good enough?? Obviously, I will
have to find somebody who will shoot the final paint FIRST, so I can make sure
that all my primers and paints match, and to see how the painter would want
the primer prepared....Greg P. ....do you have the name and number of the guy
you used in Champaign County??
Any hints and tips specific toi the GT6 gratefully recieved.
Marcus
P.S. I do already have the bumper email edition on painting
