~ Scott, the advantage of having it done are

...outweighed by the cost, at least what I was quoted at O'Connor.
Now, true, O'Connor is probably among the MOST expensive places,
but let's just say that it gives an upper limit. :-)

Kim and I spent some time discussing this last night, looking over
the prices in the Vicky Brit catalog that happened to arrive (just
for reference; of course I'll buy from TRF, Dana :-) and working out
some possible contingencies.

~ When my tax refunds come back, I'm having Greg Solo put a new STOCK cam,
~ lifters, timing chain & rod bearings into the BGT.

Actually, I think I have a workable plan at this stage, one that should
cost a reasonable amount and give me a good long-term solution that
won't explode. I know *why* the motor blew, and I know it wasn't the
fault of my assembly -- it was the fault of my driving and my not doing
The Right Thing (that is, swapping out the high-compression head before
running on the road with 92-octane gas). And believe it or not, one of
the reasons for my plan is:

~ It feels strange to have someone else doing it

I have never paid anyone to work on that car. I've taken parts off
and had shops do machine work that was beyond my skill or tool set,
and I've paid to have it "tuned" to pass smog, but I've never taken
the car to someone and said Here, fix it and tell me how much it
costs. Call me a sentimental idiot, but I think that's one reason
why the only two times this car has failed me, it's failed in my
driveway after getting me home first.

~ I'm sorry to hear that its your B :^(

You and me both. Back down to two working cars...
