        It will work, but not for long.  On of my Sprites was missing the
spacers.  Both front wheel bearings self-destructed in a few thousand miles
after I bought it, one spectacularily (luckily I was on an empty street doing
20-30 MPH).  It serves to keep the inner races from moving, which might cause
excess side loads, I guess.  When mine died, the wheel had 20 degrees negative
camber.  I removed the hub cover, and half a dozen balls fell out.  I never had
a problem after I put spacers in.
