After a bit of research I found out when the Motorcycle
division of Triumph left the auto division. Re:

In 1934 Triumph decided to separate its motorcycle group
from the main body of the company. Two years later the
Triumph Co, Ltd decided to eliminate the building of
motorcycles to concentrate its efforts on cars. The rumors
reached a Mr. Sangster (who built Ariel motorcycles) who
went to Col. Holbrook of Triumph and asked him "not to
throw the motorcycle business away but let him have it.
This Holbrook did. Sangster duly purchased the motorcycle
subsidiary, the Triumph Engineering co., Its stock and trade
and good will on January 22, 1936. Holbrook leased a section
of old factory as a service and spares depot. Sangster
appointed Ariel designer Edward Turner as managing director
of Triumph Engineering-- and Siegfried Bettmann (Triumph's
founder) as Chairman!"
