I generally would not use a 12 point socket of any sort on an impact
wrench; there is too much chance of rounding the nut off. A conventional
6 point socket can be used if you are careful, but they are not intended
for the forces a good impact wrench can apply, and when you crank the
impact wrench on max for a really tough job, conventional sockets are
likely to break. This will happen only at times when all sources of
replacement sockets are closed for the day, if not the week. If you break
sockets from Sears, maybe they will replace them under their lifetime
warranty, but the one true blue solution is a good quality set of sockets
intended for impact use. BTW, I am not convinced the Taiwan cheapies are
always tougher than good conventional sockets.

It sounds as if you have a lovely spouse.
