The problem with heat and fuel delivery that Dan Parslow describes is very
similar to my own experiences with a 1500 Spitfire.

The problem on my Spit was simply radiated heat from the exhaust manifold
causing the fuel in the carb float chambers to vapourise. This also occurred
when stopped at junctions. The addition of a heat shield as originally fitted
greatly assisted.
