This is done because only a portion of the connecting rod weight
contributes
to the rotating mass of the engine. The connecting rods undergo both rotation
and
translation as the crank spins. Unless, of course, you have a MGB with poor
oiling at
high rpm, then your connecting rod might decide translation is good enough and
find
its way through your block.
