I'm new to this conference, so I suppose I ought to introduce myself...
Last March I pulled a '76 MGB (now dubbed the "Mighty Garage Beast" by my
friends) out of a junk yard 50 miles outside of Atlanta. Since then, I've
rebuilt the engine & have been tracking down electrical problems. This is
my first project car, so I'm currently participating in the Trial and Error
school of Brittish Car Repair.
Anyhow, the car now runs pretty well, and with the exception of the turn
signals seems to be fine electrically (for now.). So, while I'm saving up
$$ to begin replacing some body panels (rt front fender, rt door & boot), I
was hoping to get some inexpensive, albeit time consuming, cosmetic work
done.
To the point: The top is in good shape; there are no obvious holes, but
many of the seams are beginning to come apart. It looks to me like most of
the top can be repaired by hand-sewing the seams that are opening. Has
anyone tried this? What type of thread do you reccomend? Is this a
reasonable approach, or is there an alternate way to repair an old top?
Any information on the subject would be a help.
