Ben Hodson writes: "...overboring an engine will *lower* the compression ratio unless higher crown pistons are used or the head is planed...." Ben has it (partly) wrong. Compression ratio is: Cylinder volume + Combustion chamber volume 8 by Combustion chamber volume. Fitting higher-crown pistons or planing the head make the combustion chamber smaller, increasing compression ratio. Making the cylinder volume larger (by boring) also increases the compression ratio - slightly. George |
