In my experience if the window regulators are stiff, check the following:

a) the adjustment of the window channels;

b) the lubrication of the regulator channels;

c) the lubrication of the regulator gears;

d) regulator mounting/fouling problems;

e) free movement of window winder handle.

If the above are OK then the regulator is probably shot - especially if
the window drops (variable distances) of its own accord.
