Will,
First check your fuel filter. An almost clogged filter will allow you to start
and idle fine but will not allow enough fuel to get through to do much
beyond that.

Second thing would be to check the linkage. If something slipped your carbs
will only open a little. With the engine off, have someone press the
accelerator peddle down to the floor while you watch the linkage. Both
carbs should open completely. Look for cables that slide in their clamp and
for arms that move without turning the shaft it is supposed to be clamped to.

The fuel filter problem would cause a car to start and idle normally but
cut out soon after trying to get the engine revs up against a load.

Slipped linkage would just give you a very low top end but everything will
be smooth.

Hope that is enough to get you started,

TeriAnn
